University of Minnesota School of Music Presents

14th Annual Balkanicus Concert

4/21/18, 7:30 PM

About this event

14th Annual Balkanicus Concert, featuring John David De Haan, tenor, Fernando Meza, percussion, along with School of Music students and alumni.

The Balkanicus chamber concert series was created in 2003 by Bulgarian cellist Nickolai Kolarov to showcase music from the Balkans that is still unknown to the local public. The concerts always present American premieres of works by composers of different generations and styles. In the past, several composers have even written and dedicated pieces to Balkanicus! This is your opportunity to listen to music inspired by folk, Western influences, and the recent developments of the 21st century — and all of the pieces will convey the 'Spiritus Balkanicus!'

This event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not necessary, seating is general admission and available on a first-come, first-seated basis.

This event will be live streamed. Visit z.umn.edu/musicstream for more information.

Convenient parking is available at the University's 19th Avenue and 21st Avenue parking ramps; you must pay a fee to park in these ramps.
